“This bitch,” Keira called herself mumbling, but I heard her loud and clear and I was sure the stuck-up woman in the fitted pencil skirt heard it as well.

Yup, that was my best fucking friend. She doesn't bite her tongue for shit. When she found out who or more so what my event planner looked like, she wasn't for the shit AT ALL! Keira kept stressing how homegirl should've gotten a job along the lines of a stripper, escort, whore; anything that required less clothes and opening up her legs. Long story short Keira didn't like Nicole one bit. She thought Nicole wanted to fuck Asahd but me, personally, I didn't care how a woman dressed or what they looked like. I was very secure in my position in that man's life.

I quickly popped her on her forehead, and she said ‘Ow’ dramatically shooting a screwed up look at me.

“What was that?” Nicole pivoted on her heels with an ear to ear smile.

  “I said…”

“I like this venue,” I butted in because Keira would’ve created an entirely new statement that would’ve offended her. “What are they asking for?”

“$15,000 and an extra $150 per guest after fifty people.”

I looked around and was in love with the place. It reminded me of the royal wedding I wanted to have; high ceilings, crisp white walls outlines with touches of gold, bright lights and a menu of food that was mouthwatering by just reading the description.

I was in a daze picturing my first dance with the love of my life to pay any attention to what Nicole was saying.

  “Is $15,000 too much?”

"Huh?" I responded once she pulled me from my daydream.

  “Is $15,000 too much?”

Keira sucked her teeth. “Does it look like it’s too much? She’s wearing your salary on her ring finger.”

I shot Keira a look, and Nicole almost looked like she wanted to screw her face up as well but she forcibly kept her lips upward.

  Thank God.

Keira would’ve slapped her face straight eight months pregnant and all.

Luckily for Nicole, her phone rung and she asked to step off and take the phone call. I nodded my head and stared at Keira who was staring a hole right through Nicole. She hurried away so fast you could hear the constant click of her heels on the marble floors.

“Do you always gotta be a jerk?”

"Yes, as long as little hussies like her are on this earth. I will always be a jerk. The bitch tried it, is $15,000 too much? She knows damn well, Asahd will buy this muhfucka just to marry you in and then sell it. She better stop fucking playing with me.”

I giggled because Asahd was just that damn extra. He told me there was no limit on our wedding, so $15,000 wasn't much at all to him. I was completely fine with having something small and intimate. Johan had a beautiful backyard I was in love with, but Asahd wasn't trying to hear that.

I told him he must've thought we were the Whoopers and he said to me, nah baby, we're the Moseley's. See what I had to deal with. Guess it was different levels, but I damn sure wasn’t spending a million dollars on a wedding. I don’t care that it was his money footing it either.

“In her defense, I told her I didn’t want to go over 50 grand. So you can’t blame her for double checking with me.”

“Well, in my defense when she gets chin-checked I will blame it on you. You have her acting so simple and shady, and I will slap them stove curls out her head."

“Do you ever behave? You’re pregnant,” I reminded her rubbing her swollen stomach. “I’m sorry you gotta deal with this son son.”

"Son, son, knows my heart. This is just preparing him for what he gotta deal with when he gets here. Shit, I'm kicking his ass too for all the hell he's putting me through right now. I can barely sleep because he wants to be moving when it's night-night time."

“You better not touch my baby,” I warned.

“Ok, when he cries out of nowhere just remember this conversation,” she laughed, and I went to go hit her my damn self, and she jumped away.

I understood how she felt to an extent, this pregnancy thing wasn't no joke. Men had it so easy. The first trimester was extreme exhaustion, nausea, and vomiting. I lost five pounds because I had no appetite to eat anything.

Now that I was in my second trimester, and closer to finding out what we were having it was easier. I was always stuffing my face because the hunger pangs felt like it was around the clock.

Asahd and I, both were on the same page when it came to what we were having. Neither of us cared if we were blessed with a boy or a girl as long as they were healthy. Because of that, Asahd was overbearing and bossy as hell. He watched everything I ate and even learned how to make simple foods so that we could cut back on ordering out. He was extreme when it came to me and the baby's health, it was cute because he was the man that gave no fucks at one point of time and now he had it all to give. It was amazing up until the point I wanted some grease in my life and was ready to cut his behind.

"I gotta go piss," Keira hurried off to go use the bathroom which was at the front of the hall.

I took a seat in one of the cushioned chairs and pulled out my phone to scroll on my timeline. I had social media, but it wasn't anything popping. I mainly posted food and my classroom. I had a ton of friend request from females more than likely being nosey. Being with Asahd came with a lot of shit, but I wore my crown proudly and wasn't stepping off my throne to address a peasant. I was truly unbothered.

“Excuse me miss, I noticed you when you first came in here and I gotta say you’re really beautiful.”

I lifted my head and focused on the man that stood in front of me. He was dressed well in a suit that was tailor-made and fit his slim athletic frame perfectly. I did a quick scan and noticed he had an alluring smile and he smelled really good.

He just wasn’t my man, so just as quick as I was impressed it vanished knowing no one could hold a candle to my king.

“Thank you,” I responded taking my eyes off him and looking back at my screen.

  “Are you having an event?”

  “I’m getting married.”

“I was hoping that wasn’t the case,” he laughed lightly, and I looked back up at him.

  “Why?”

He continued to smile and pulled out a business card. “I mean… I can’t believe I missed that big ol’ rock on your finger. He’s a lucky guy.”

"... Yeah," I replied ready for the conversation to end. I was sure he wanted to get on me, but I wasn't going to give him the time of day.

“I’m sure you will need a photographer for your amazing day,” he extended the card my way and tucked his hands back in his pocket. “I’ll love to have the opportunity to capture your special moment. I offer great prices.

I glanced at the card, opened my purse and placed it inside. “Thank you, I do. I’ll be sure to discuss this with my fiancé. I’m not sure what he has in mind."

“I’m looking forward to hearing from you. You know us people gotta stick together.”

I crinkled my eyebrows from his statement but then shook it off. Some people loved to make things about color.

  “Ok… thanks again.”

He smiled and walked off. My phone vibrated in my hand and the uncertain look wiped off my face when I saw it was Asahd.

  "Yes, honey."

“How’s it going?” he asked me.

“Well besides Keira terrorizing Nicole, it’s going pretty well. I love this place.”

Asahd burst out laughing because he knew Keira hated Nicole guts and the reason why. He piped her ass up to act a fool too.

“KeKe better leave that woman alone.”

“You encourage Keira to bother her, so don’t switch up now.”

  “Real recognize real.”

“Sure, as long as you recognize who you’re dealing with, that’s all that matters.”

He chuckled again. “I don’t want no smoke fat momma. What's this place looking like?”

"It's 15k for 50 guests and $150 for each additional person."

"15 thou-, where the hell you trying to marry me? At a recreation center giving out cheese sandwiches and cherry kool-aid."

“No!” I giggled because he was truly a fool. “It’s a hall on Ave of the Arts.”

“No. FUCK NO. You ain’t tired of Philadelphia? I’m not telling the world I want you forever with Septa buses riding down the street.”

  “It’s not about the buses.”

"You damn right it ain't! That's why I ain't trying to hear them. You really gonna get Nicole fired she got you pussy-footing around the city looking at bullshit. Do I need to fire her and do this shit myself?"

“Hell no!” I exclaimed rolling my eyes.

“You stressing me out girl. I need this to be a night for us to remember. Let’s do this outside of Philly.”

"Fine. I'll tell Nicole, and we can start over."

“I would tell her myself, but I got a lot going on."

  “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing that concerns you Ma, I’m good. Zayne with me and he was trying to get in contact with KeKe to get Naa.”

“She’s in the bathroom,” I replied noticing Keira have not returned. “I’ll tell her though.”

“Cool. Now go get my niece and get your behind in the house ASAP.”

  “Bye Asahd.”

  “I love you.”

“I love your irking ass too.”

I hung up the phone and sighed heavily rubbing my temples. Between nagging Asahd, Keira the bully and all the plans I had to get in order for this baby and wedding I was sure to explode.

  KEKE

I was so glad to finally get away from Nicole because I was ten seconds from strangling her ass. She absolutely did the most all the time. I can sense she was jealous that Asahd was marrying Camille which was fine but stay in your fucking place!

Camille was too unbothered for me because the slick shit she did and said always got me vexed. It'll be just my luck that she was still hired once I dropped my load because I will have nothing holding me back from slapping sense into her ass.

After we left the Hall, Camille took me to get Za'naa from school, and I gave her an earful about Nicole. She laughed at most the shit I said, but I was serious as fuck.

Once we got to the school, she waited in the car while I went to go get my baby girl. I really didn't like coming up to the school because after getting a new owner they changed everything drastically. They no longer accepted scholarships funded by the city. Scholarships were only awarded from them, and they claimed it was open to the public, but I highly doubt it.

So all the children that went to this prestigious school in the city and had a scholarship funded by outside sources were basically dropped and advised to apply for their scholarship program.

I was far from stupid, so I picked up immediately on the lack of color in the school. Even on the board where they boasted about the scholarship winners most of the children weren't black. I was telling Zayne there was some fucked up shit going on because not only did they eliminate groups of people from attending the school, they raised tuition, added in unnecessary fees such as a lunch program where children were not allowed to bring packed lunch due to allergies and had to eat from the school where everything was made. There was also a strict ass uniform policy, along with fundraisers you had to participate in. Way too much for me. I preferred a Charter School or even one of those Freedom Schools that have been spreading through the city. The education was free, and I'm sure there was less bullshit.

After signing into the building, I rolled my eyes at the security guard who was watching me like he wanted to say something and then went up to the second floor where her first-grade class was located.

I spotted Za’naa right away where she sat alone at a table while the other kids were doing things around the classroom. I picked up on the dejected expression on her face.

“What’s wrong Naa?” I questioned her, and the teacher rushed over answering before Za'naa had a chance to open her mouth.

"We didn't have a good day today. Za'naa hasn't been participating and refusing to play at recess."

"Did I ask you?" I snapped at the man, and his face burned a bright red.

  “I was just saying-“

“I didn’t ask you. I’m speaking to my daughter. Are you ok Naa?”

She nodded her head before she responded. “Yes, I’m just really sleepy.”

I stared at her longer knowing that she went to bed at eight and woke up at seven. There was a big difference between sleepy and sad, and I strongly believed it was the latter.

  “Come on, let’s go.”

She scooted her chair back and got out of her seat. Her book bag was already on her back, and I took her hand in mine, and we left the building.

I paid close attention to how her demeanor changed once we got in the car and she saw Camille was in the driver’s seat. She started to talk more, and I was happy that she cheered up.

Camille was tired, so she went to her house down the street, and I got settled with Za'naa. I instructed her to wash her hands and got out a fruit cup and granola bar for her to snack on while we did her homework.

I pretty much allowed Za’naa to do her own thing. I was eager to find out what the real issue was but she was hyped about completing her homework because it was something new they learned in class. She finished her reading part in fifteen minutes and the math in about the same time before we picked a book out of her library to chart on her reading log.

She picked out a book I purchased on Facebook from a young author named Marcayah Carter, Don’t Be A Bully: Love Always. Together we read it, and she made a note of it on her log.

“How was school?” I asked as she packed everything away.

Slowly, her demeanor shifted filling the room with her mellow aura. This definitely wasn’t my Za’naa.

“It wasn’t too well. It hasn't been for a while,” she admitted zipping up her book bag.

Knowing this was a conversation that we both had to have, we needed each other's undivided attention I gently sat her down next to me on the couch and lifted her chin so she can look me in my face.

“What’s been going on? Is it your teacher?”

She shook her head. “He’s ok. The kids are kind of mean. They make me feel like I don’t belong.”

“How?” I questioned attempting to keep my anger at bay because I was seconds from turning that whole school out.

"I mean… can I tell you the truth without you getting upset? I know my daddy wouldn't like this, but it's the truth."

“Of course Naa. You can tell your father and me anything."

Za'naa stared into my eyes probably looking to see if I was being honest and I was. One thing I
hated growing up is that my father thought I couldn't talk back or express myself because I was a child. It got worse when Rachel came into the picture. Look at me now. I changed a little, however, if my father allowed me to get everything out in the open I had bottled up I wouldn't be as hot-headed as I was now.

That fucked up way of thinking either had kids angry or withdrawn. It turned me into a beast which is why I chose to stay away from him and his perfect little family because I will tear them to shreds mentally and emotionally with my words and physically if it boiled down to it. Alexander and I made up, but there have been years of betrayal I had to heal. Either way, I was ok because I came to terms that his wife and other daughter was more of a priority. I now had my own family to worry about.

"There's this boy named Tyler, and he likes me. He always compliments me and wants to sit next to me. A few kids tell him not to, so then all of a sudden he stopped."

“Oh… does that make you sad?” I really wanted to ask her if she liked the little boy as well but that might’ve made her withdraw from me. Za’naa was now seven years old. Boys shouldn’t be on her mind. Shit, I hope they weren’t.

Thankfully for me, she shook her head, and I let go a sigh of relief, and my heart went back to its place in my chest and out of my throat.

"The only thing that bothers me is that the kids don't really want to play with me. I'm nice to them, and they ignore me."

“What do they say?” I asked, and she shrugged her shoulders.

  “They walk off whispering.”

  “Have you told the teacher?”

“No. I don’t care that much because I feel so sleepy sometimes. I don’t understand why I get in trouble for not participating at recess. That’s my free time to do what I want.”

“I’ll handle your teacher. But what’s going on? You slept for over ten hours last night?”

  “I can’t explain. I think I need a little bit more sleep.”

Za’naa smiled which actually made my mood lighten. She had this radiance about her that easily made me happy.

“Ok, sleeping beauty. How about we order for dinner, shower and then climb in the bed and watch movies until we check out.”
