Despite the fact of us being busy and the bomb that was dropped on me, I had my eye on her all day to see if the entire ordeal left an emotional or mental scars. Surprisingly, everything was back to normal. I think I was the only one shaken up and it had to have been the hormones.

“How are you feeling after everything?” Rita questioned her and she smiled. It didn’t look forced which confirmed my thoughts.

“I’m cool. I’m past the scared stage. Just disappointed in myself because I was so wrapped up in getting over Wesley that I basically fell for anything. All this time Mar was just concerned for my safety and I looked at it as if he was treating me like a child. I feel foolish as fuck.”

“You live and you learn,” I said offering her a warm smile. I hated for her to beat herself up over a mistake. Yes, it was one that almost cost her life, but that was now behind us.

She sighed. “Yes… but let me tell you something that’s funny, I believe I heard him mention your name, Rita. And someone on the phone called him, Trevor. I knew him as Trey.”

Rita’s eyes got wide. “I know a Trevor and now that I think of it, he used to tell people he didn’t know that his name was Trey. If we’re speaking about the same person, he’s my ex and I believe he was the reason why that police arrested me yesterday.”

Amena went through her phone and passed it off to Rita, who agreed immediately that the man was her ex. “Damn, so he must be after all of us.”

Rita passed her back her phone. “Is our problem gone?”

Amena stared at us blankly before she shrugged her shoulders. “I’m not sure. I was so focused on getting away, killing him wasn’t on my mind.”

The thought made us all uneasy, but Sharita got us out of that bad place in our mind over the what ifs by changing the topic. We continued to chat and relax before finally driving back to my place.

  Wes

“So, what’s the move we're gonna make? That nigga is out there and if he’s bold enough he’ll strike again,” I asked with my eyes bouncing back and forth between Ken and Mar. We were discussing what the plan was going to be now that we had someone coming for us and everyone we loved. I knew it wasn’t like Mar to not finish some shit that has already begun, but when it came to his little sister he was a different person. I imagined once he got her, he was only worried about her only, not going to kill the nigga. He had a few guys ride up to finish what she started, and we learned that the body was gone, so it only meant he was still alive and possibly plotting against us.

“Mena told me that he mentioned Rita’s name. We need to figure out if this shit is all connected,” Mar added taking a toke of the blunt he had hanging from his mouth.

“More than likely it is. I got people giving me information on the police officer that arrested her,” Ken responded. “He may be able to hide, but she can’t. If we don’t get any leads on him, I can handle the cop and get it out of her.”

“If Amena is saying the guy mentioned Rita being arrested, and Rita think her ex had something to do with her being arrested does that mean the nigga Trey, is really Trevor,” I summed up.

Mar passed the blunt to Ken and sunk into his seat, resting his head against the back of the chair. “There’s a strong chance that this all ties in together. Shit, if it does it works out in our favor because we can get everyone involved in the issue.”

“I’m on it,” Ken stated after blowing the smoke into the air. He was pissed his girl was arrested, so imagine how we felt about Amena being kidnapped. I felt guilty as fuck knowing I allowed her to put herself out there because I was pussy footing on us becoming official.

Mar and I beef was squashed. We grew up throwing hands to get shit off our chest, but we never allowed the ill feelings to linger. This situation however couldn’t just be brushed off with a few punches. Hearing that I could possibly lose Amena had me in a different mindset now. I always wanted her, but I think I allowed the idea of being a father meant appeasing Kesha.

I cared about Kesha and liked the fact that we were getting along, but even with her and my baby coming soon I felt like a part of me was missing. That part was Amena.

“We need to talk about the shit between Amena and I.”

“Oh shit…” Ken mumbled passing Mar back the blunt.

Mar shot me a blank stare as he accepted the blunt, pulled on it and blew the smoke out of his mouth.

“Ain’t shit to talk about. Amena gonna do what she wants, and you’re a grown ass man.”

I couldn’t even be mad at the tussle I got into with Mar over his sister. It was expected, but I had to get it off my chest that she was more than a quick fuck to me.

“I understand that, but I think now that it’s out in the open, you should know how I really feel about her.”

“Bruh… for the past year you ain’t give a fuck how I felt, so what’s changed now? Because she was in danger and I found out because your emotions were running high? Well, she’s safe and like I said, she’s going to do what she wants.”

“I rather ask for forgiveness than ask for permission. We both are grown. I ain’t see myself asking you to be with another adult.”

“I respect it… now that I don’t have a choice. You got your situation with Kesha I only ask that you figure out what you want. If it ain’t my sister then just leave her alone. If I find out you breaking her heart because you want to play house and then play boyfriend to her, then I will fucking shoot you. I won’t kill you, but I’ma put a bullet in your ass just for hurting her.”

I burst out laughing and moved my head from side to side. “That’s some shit to say.”

“I’m dead ass too. That black eye don’t have shit on a bullet.” He held out the blunt and I accepted it. “She’s my sister and all I got. Anyone come for her, I’m coming from them. No friendship or relationship gonna get in the way of that.”

“I understand that, but a bullet though?”

“It is what it is. I don’t play about mine.”

“How ya lip feeling?” I asked to be a smart ass. We had hands, so we both walked away fucked up from our scuffle.

He laughed as well. “Fuck you, pussy. You lucky that’s all you walked away with.”

“I’m lucky,” I asked back with my hands to my chest and a smirk on my face. “I took it easy on you, just because you my homie.”

I took a toke of the blunt and gave it back to him. He accepted and took a pull as well.

  “How’s Kesha and the baby?”

“Wow, you’re actually asking about her?”

“I don’t care for her, but you’re my nigga, and she’s carrying my nephew. I care about that aspect. I have a heart.”

“Shittttttt, ok,” Ken instigating ass finally said. We both shot him a look and he started cracking the fuck up.

“She a’ight. She wants us to be a family with a baby, but it’s not what I wanted. I can admit, knowing she’s carrying my seed got me soft on her, but I can’t see myself being with her ever again. Not like that, at least.”

“I know the feeling.” Mar ashed the blunt and leaned back in his seat pulling on his beard. “CoCo isn’t that far and I’m excited like she’s going to give birth any day now. I never thought of myself as a family man until now. How everything's coming together, what I’m about to do with her only makes sense.”

Our conversation was interrupted from the alarm of the front door beeping letting us know the front door was being opened. Knowing it was the girls, we both stood and headed up out of the basement to the first floor.

Ken gave us both a pound and then left out with Sharita. Amena's eyes locked with mine before she glanced at her brother with a look of uncertainty. After he kissed Corryn, he embraced Amena pressing one on her forehead and then guided Corryn to the kitchen to give us some space.

Breaking our stare with an eye roll, Amena tried to walk past me but I took her wrist in my hand.

  “Amena, wait.”

She snatched away now with sadness in her eyes that were drowning
them in tears.

  “Don’t!”

  “We need to talk.”

“That’s all that we have been doing is talking. You’re not tired? Where’s the action? You know how patient I’ve been for you and it came to this?! Me almost getting my life taken away?!”

The tears that were spilling from her eyes had me swallowing my heart that felt like it was lodged in my throat.

“It shouldn’t have to come this far, but we’re here now and I want to make things right this time. All the way right,” I added knowing that I probably have said the same shit not too long ago. “There was never a choice. It was always you. I was just stuck in my own head thinking being cool with her meant being a father to my child.”

“Please, Wesley… save me the shit. You do have to be cool with her. Y’all shouldn’t be beefing if y’all want to raise a happy child. I’m over it.”

  “No, you’re not.”

I closed in the space between us and grabbed her hands. It was weird as fuck going through this motions with her in the middle of her brothers place but it was now or never.

Even though she said she was done, the look on her face led me to believe we were far from remotely over. Since I was already close to her, I took the chance on kissing her lips and she allowed me.

Silence fell between us. I pressed my forehead against hers as I cradled her face in my hands. I was finally at peace. This was a kind of peace I didn’t get with Kesha. Sex couldn’t fulfil the emptiness I had. Only Amena.

“You’ve been doing all this talking for months. I’m no longer listening to you or waiting. If you really want me, you’ll figure it out,” she said breaking away from me and ascending the stairs in her brother’s house.

I could respect she wasn’t going to make this shit easy. She had all this time and I took advantage of it, but I was playing for keeps this time. I was going to do whatever it took to make her mine again.

  Ken

When the lock clicked, I twisted the handle and pushed the door open that creaked as I pushed it back. The heavy metal music that was blasting, muffled the sound the door made. I was surprised no one called the police on her for disturbing the peace.

With my gun in my hand, I trekked lightly further into the house. Officer Eileen Cloak was face first in a pile of coke holding one side of her nose and using the other to vacuum up the line. As I walked past her to the Bose system she had playing the music, I gripped up her gun off the table.

When I got to her system, I lowered the volume and she jumped up reaching for the gun that wasn’t there.

“It’s not there,” I said tucking her gun in my back. She wearily turned my way with a zoned out look on her face.

“Who are you and what the fuck do you want.”

“You know who I am. Didn’t you arrest my girl and take her down for questioning?”

The coke she just inhaled must’ve had a few seconds of an effect on her, so once she finally was able to focus on me she looked like she seen a ghost.

“What do you want?” she asked again holding her hands up in the air.

I laughed. “I just told you why I’m here. Sit the fuck down and if you make any sudden movements I won’t hesitate to blow your brains out.”

Walking back over to her as she sat down she cast an angry glare my way that didn’t move me at all. “You’re not going to kill me. I’m a Police Officer. Do you know how much time you will get for even pulling the trigger?”

“I don’t give a fuck about anything you’re saying. Me and you both know that shit you pulled the other day wasn’t because you were honoring your badge. So tell me who paid you to do that shit?”

This time, she had the nerve to chortle as if she was in control of the situation. “You’re not going to kill me?”

“I know I’m not,” I replied just to throw her for a loop. “But you are going to die. I need my answers though before that happens.”

Now the smug grin was wiped off her face and I watched on as her eyes darted back and forth probably trying to see if there was something that could save her from her own demise.

“Don’t kill me. I’ll tell you whatever you need to know.”

  Damn, that was quick.

“Talk,” I said crossing my arms over my chest.

“I was working for Trevor, he got with Yvette to take over Pitt’s operation, but soon learned from Yvette that y’all crew had better business and product, so he started to use Mar sister to get to him.”

“What the fuck Rita have to do with it?”

She shook her head back and forth. “I… I … I don’t know,” she stammered.

I unfolded my arm and cocked the hammer back to my gun since she needed a little motivation.

She sucked in a sharp breath and closed her eyes. “Ok! You know Trevor is her ex. He saw her one night and told me to grab her and threaten her. He figured she was useful since she was messing with you.”

I nodded my head. “Where can I find him? I know you know where he’s at.”

She opened her mouth to probably lie, but the hammer of my gun clicking had her shaking. “He said he was leaving town,” she spewed out.

  “Alone?”

“Probably so. Yvette is useless to him. Her connect won’t work with him, so he’s fleeing because he knows he’s wanted, and he has no army.”

I believed her. She made this shit less messy than what I planned on it being.

“He paid you to do all this shit?”

Nodding her head wildly she responded,“Yes, in cash and coke, but I’m telling you I’m done with him. He can’t buy me to do any of that shit again. My job is on the line and I need it more than anything. I owe a shit load of people!” she burst out crying out of nowhere.

She probably thought that shit moved me one way or the other, but it didn’t. She was involved with fucking with people that I loved, so my heart wasn’t in this situation. The only thing on my mind was revenge and deading this issue.

“After I’m done with you I promise this will all be behind you.” I took out my stack of money and a baggie of our coke. “Who would’ve known the two things you love the most be the reason you die?”

Emptying the contents on top of the crumbs of coke she done sniffed up I pushed it back in my pocket before separating a good amount from the pile with the bill.

“You like to get high right? Go ahead.”

Cloak eyed me and then at the small pile before rolling the bill up in her hand and leaned over it. I watched as she held one nostril and inhaled up a good amount of the pile like it was nothing. Unlike the first time, she clasped her eyes tight and groaned pinching the bridge of her nose.

Her greedy ass tried to inhale the whole thing up her nose. If she was getting any of Pitts stepped on product, I was sure she’ll be able to, but our shit was too pure to take at one time.

  “Again.”

Lifting her hazy eyes to me, she took the bill and this time pointed it in the pile without separating anything. She inhaled deeply but then dropped the bill smacking her hands against her face.

  “You’re trying to kill me!”

“You wanted to get high and try to take down my people. Now the shit you love the most is going to kill you. Take that shit back again.”

Cloak just stared at me. Blood began to trickle down her nose and the effects of coke were viable by the way her eyeballs looked like they were poking out of her head and sweat coated her skin. This time I pointed my gun at her.

  “Again!”

With a shaky hand, she held the rolled bill in her fingers and looked at the pile of coke. I wasn’t leaving until I knew she was dead with my own eyes.

She inhaled the coke a few more times before her body began to shake violently and blood leaked from both nostrils. Her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she fell face first on the table. Pushing my two fingers on her neck to check her pulse, I didn’t feel one. She was gone.

Placing her gun back down on the table, I went back through the b
ack door I came from taking off the gloves I had on my hands after I shut the locked door.

In life you have choices, but you also have consequences that follow right behind each and every one you made.

Fucking with the people who I loved just cost her life.

Before getting back home, I stopped at a trap and got rid of the clothes I had on and switched into something clean. Although I was very careful when I broke into Cloak’s house, I wanted to be sure nothing traced back to me.

Once I got home, I changed back into my ball shorts and wife beater in the guest bedroom downstairs and then made my way up to the second floor. The first stop I made was my kids room.

Kent and Kenia had their own room, but they insisted on being with each other. Kenia was tangled up in her purple butterfly sheets while Kent was in his Toys Story sleeping bag.

This was the longest they’ve been with me and we all were cool with the change. Their mother was on some shit and was actually loving the time away from her children. She was on some hot girl summer shit living her life to the fullest. I was cool with it because I got what I wanted, which was my children. I was sure once her money slowed up she’ll be on my line again, but I ain’t have shit to give her especially since she no longer parented our kids.

I gave them both kisses on their forehead and tucked Kenia’s wild ass back under her covers before I left out cracking the door.

In my bedroom, Sharita laid asleep in the middle of my bed hugging a pillow. The sight of her, brought a smile to my face. Who would’ve known the very person I always had in my life was what I needed?

Slipping into my bed, I pulled back the covers and snuggled my body against hers kissing her shoulder.

  “Where you go?” she mumbled.

“Bathroom. Go back to sleep,” I told her.

Seconds passed before I heard Sharita’s light snores. My eyelids began to get heavy, so it wasn’t long before I was falling asleep with her.

She was the first woman that I opened up to and I wasn’t regretting that at all. Connecting with her had me rethinking my whole outlook on love. My children made me look at life from a different perspective but now this woman was making another drastic change. It was damn sure a great feeling.
